JK Rowling and the mind that wouldn't open

As I read more of Sonya Renee Taylor or listen to Prentis Hemphill, my definition of what a woman is and how I see my body has changed so much. It leaves me with many more questions: How would our bodies be if we were fed properly, cared for, felt safe, and had access to resources that men so easily have? How would our bodies look if we were operating at our strongest? How would our bodies feel if we redefined beauty to include everyone and everything? We don’t know. I am happy to sit with this.

Our definition of what a woman is, is so tied to patriarchy that anyone hugging it or feeling a sense of safety from such narrow definitions of what a woman is... feels like such a patriarchal thing to do.

It’s heartbreaking to see JK Rowling take this path. People loved Harry Potter not for it’s quality of fantasy but for the sense of belonging she created for all of us. And here she is, in real life, being such a …man?.
